| LOS GATOS, CA (January 8, 2007) ICTV®, creator of network-based
solutions that seamlessly blend the choice and control of
broadband video with the quality and responsiveness of television,
announced today that senior executives will discuss how the
company’s ActiveVideo™ platform enables delivery of Internet-driven
television during panel appearances in conjunction with the
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.
Ed Forman, executive vice president and COO of ICTV, will
explain how the ActiveVideo platform supports the media industry’s
movement toward a Web-like television experience on a Digital
Hollywood panel entitled “TV & Interactivity: Evolving
Content & Business Models: Content, Commerce and Branded
Entertainment” on Tuesday, January 9 at 3 p.m. at the Las
Vegas Convention Center. On Thursday, January 11, Jeff Miller,
president and CEO of ICTV, will discuss the company’s technology
and business approach during the Citigroup Entertainment,
Media and Telecommunications Conference panel entitled “The
Future of Content Distribution” at 12:30 p.m. at the Mandalay
Bay Resort & Casino.
ActiveVideo delivers Web-driven programming as MPEG video
in combination with both live and VOD streams to provide an
engaging, immersive TV- quality viewing experience via cable
and IPTV networks. Viewers use standard remote controls to
navigate ActiveVideo, which is fully compatible with all existing
cable and IPTV set-top boxes, enabling the complete re-use
of existing capital infrastructure.
“Unlike many of the approaches being unveiled at CES, ActiveVideo
is delivered via customer premises devices that are already
deployed, so it requires no investment in additional CPE hardware
or integration between PCs and TVs,” said Miller. “This enables
network operators to simply and cost-effectively offer to
their customers new services that take advantage of the high
service quality of the managed cable and IPTV networks.”
The ICTV ActiveVideo platform is entirely standards-based
and works with all video distribution infrastructures and
set top boxes. Live and on-demand programming can be blended
seamlessly with content that is created and modified quickly
using standard Web tools and talent. Because ActiveVideo composites
Web programming into standard video streams in the network
and delivers it as standard on-demand MPEG streams, all that
is required of a set-top box is a standard MPEG decoder and
return path capabilities. As a result, programmers and advertisers
create content once which can be delivered to every cable
and IPTV set-top box, regardless of hardware, middleware and
guide differences.
ActiveVideo Mosaic, the multichannel industry’s first customizable,
personalized mosaic for video-rich navigation, creates easy
to use personalized navigation, allowing subscribers to view
live video from and navigate through a number of channels
at a single glance. ActiveVideo Mosaic can be personalized
based upon subscriber, operator, or programmer choice, or
via system response to subscriber viewing habits — all on
any digital set-top box. Interactive elements, including Web-driven
targeted advertising, can be incorporated within the mosaic
screens.
ActiveVideo Channels, which enable existing broadband programming
networks to be delivered to the TV in real time as high-quality,
subscriber-controlled television video, allow network operators
and programmers to enhance the value of existing channels
by allowing viewers to take active control of what they see
and when they see it. Simply by using their remote control,
television viewers can select an ActiveVideo Channel from
the standard program guide and enter a broadband experience
that includes video, navigational elements, channel branding,
banner advertisements, and links to different video segments.
Screens can be manipulated to reflect personal viewing interests
and purchasing preferences. Clicking on advertisements within
the ActiveVideo experience enables interaction with sponsor
messages, including “telescoping” to let consumers request
more information, watch a demonstration or complete a transaction. |
