ICTV to Show IPTV Capabilities of ActiveVideo Platform at Telco TV Conference and Expo

LOS GATOS, CA (November 6, 2006) – ICTV®, creator of on-demand, narrowcast solutions that seamlessly blend the choice and control of broadband video with the quality and responsiveness of television, will demonstrate the ability of its ActiveVideo™ platform to meet the needs of IPTV operators at the Telco TV Conference and Expo November 6-8 in Dallas.

At Booth 513 at the Gaylord Texan, ICTV will show the benefits that the ActiveVideo platform can bring to operators, programmers and advertisers by bringing broadband video programming and Internet advertising models to television. ICTV recently announced that ActiveVideo has been selected by PCCW to enable interactive channels via television to all 654,000 subscribers of PCCW’s now TV service in Hong Kong.

At Telco TV, ICTV will be demonstrating the cornerstone applications of the ActiveVideo platform: ActiveVideo Mosaic, the multichannel industry’s first customizable, personalized mosaic for video-rich navigation, and ActiveVideo Channels, which enable existing broadband programming networks to be delivered to the TV in real time as high-quality, subscriber-controlled television video. ICTV will also demonstrate a variety of ActiveVideo Advertising solutions.

“As telcos stake out their positions in a rapidly-evolving video world, it will be important that they provide services that differentiate them from their competitors,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ICTV. “The new programming options and interactive, targeted, actionable and measurable advertising opportunities that can be delivered by ActiveVideo create an opportunity for IPTV providers to combine the strengths of broadband and television video.”

ActiveVideo delivers Web-driven programming in combination with both live and VOD streams to provide an engaging, immersive TV- quality viewing experience via IPTV networks.. Viewers use standard remote controls to navigate ActiveVideo which is fully compatible with all existing IP set-top boxes, enabling the complete re-use of existing capital infrastructure.

Capitalizing on the ability to deliver interactive programming as MPEG video to any digital set-top box, the ICTV ActiveVideo platform is entirely standards-based, requiring no custom integration or proprietary development. Live and on-demand programming can be blended seamlessly with content that is created and modified quickly using standard Web tools and talent. Because ActiveVideo composites Web programming into standard video streams in the network and delivers it as standard on-demand MPEG streams, all that is required of a STB is a standard MPEG decoder and return path capabilities. As a result, programmers and advertisers create content once which can be delivered to every IPTV and cable STB, regardless of hardware, middleware and guide differences.

The ICTV ActiveVideo Mosaic creates easy to use personalized navigation, allowing subscribers to view live video from and navigate through a number of channels at a single glance. The ActiveVideo Mosaic can be personalized based upon subscriber, operator, or programmer choice, or via system response to subscriber viewing habits — all on any digital set-top box. Interactive elements, including Web-driven targeted advertising, can be incorporated within the mosaic screens.

With ActiveVideo Channels, network operators and programmers can enhance the value of existing channels by allowing viewers to take active control of what they see and when they see it. Simply by using their remote control, television viewers can select an ActiveVideo Channel from the standard program guide and enter a broadband experience that includes video, navigational elements, channel branding, banner advertisements, and links to different video segments. Screens can be manipulated to reflect personal viewing interests and purchasing preferences. Clicking on advertisements within the ActiveVideo experience enables interaction with sponsor messages, including “telescoping” to let consumers request more information, watch a demonstration or complete a transaction.
